What it settles
[edit | edit source]- Power-on self test beeps (p. 52): one beep, no RAM; two, EDO memory fitted; three, no RAM bank passed; four or five, bad boot ROM on the processor board.
- Power manager reset (pp. 55-56, 184-185): the reset button behind the I/O door on the back of the machine.
- Backup battery: about 48 hours on the adapter to recharge (pp. 57, 181-182); a shim stops it moving in its case (pp. 173-174).
- The batteries fit no earlier PowerBook, including the earlier G3 Series; the connector differs and the pack is thinner (p. 29).
- The left of the three heatsink screws holds the heatsink on the processor; without it the system can overheat (p. 40).
- I/O logic boards with DVD support have parts at U8 and G2 and a Ziva chip underneath (p. 41).
- Apple warns against cleaning the outside with anything containing isopropyl alcohol, which damages the plastics (p. 39).
- Battery charging faults (p. 59): press the reset button, try the other bay, and insert and eject the battery four or five times before replacing the power supply card.
