Replacing electrolytic capacitors (recapping) in your Power Macintosh 6100 is an important maintenance task for long-term reliability. Capacitors from the early 1990s may leak, dry out, or fail, causing various system problems.

After a recap, check that the +5 V rail sits inside the range the board's 5 V logic is specified for, which is 5 V ยฑ5 per cent, or 4.75 V to 5.25 V. For the ยฑ12 V rails there is no published figure; look for a steady reading under load and for the absence of visible ripple rather than for a number.
