The Macintosh Performa 588 is an alternate name for the Macintosh Performa 588CD, the consumer variant of the Macintosh LC 580 sold exclusively in Europe and Asia.[1] All Performa 588 units shipped with a 2X CD-ROM drive; the "CD" suffix was sometimes omitted in marketing materials.
In Japan, the 588 shipped with KanjiTalk 7.5 for Japanese language support. The model shares its hardware platform with the Macintosh Performa 580CD but was marketed in different regions.
