The Macintosh Performa 5440 is a 180 MHz model of the Performa 5400 series. Apple's technical-specification page dates it to November 12, 1996 and notes that it was not sold in the United States. It came with 16 MB of RAM, a 1.6 GB IDE hard drive and an 8× CD-ROM drive, with no Ethernet as standard.[1]

Apple's Service Source for the series does not name the 5440. It covers the graphite Performa 5400/180 (Europe and Asia) and 5420/180 (Japan and Australia), which have a 180 MHz PowerPC 603ev and 16 MB of RAM on the logic board and are otherwise the Power Macintosh 5400/180.[3] Apple's technical-specification page for the 5440 gives 8 MB on the logic board and does not give the case colour.[1]

Service notes

The 5400 series is serviced at module level from Apple's Service Source; the module part numbers, the original and Rev. B chassis, and the known faults are on Macintosh Performa 5400. The machine contains a CRT; read CRT Discharge Procedure before opening it. The clock battery is a 4.5 V alkaline pack that Apple replaces below 3.0 V, and alkaline leakage is neutralised with dilute white vinegar; see Battery Explosion, Capacitor or Corrosion Damage.
