Verify against Apple's Power Macintosh/Performa 5260, 5280 Series Service Source (hosted): the DRAM minimum is 16 MB, not 8 MB (8 MB is the 5200 and 5300 figure); corrected the case dimensions (width 16 in, depth 15.1 in - they were transposed); stated the sound properly (16-bit mono in, 16-bit stereo out at 0.5 V RMS into 39 ohms, 16-bit stereo speakers) where only the input was given; added Apple's full electrical figures - 240 W and 4.0 A maximum for this family against 125 W and 2.5 A for...

Apple's power figures for this family do not agree with each other. The Service Source Electrical page gives "240 W maximum" on its power line and "220 W maximum for all line and load conditions" two lines below; Apple's technical-specification page gives 125 W and 4 A.<ref name="ss526spec" /><ref name="ts5280" /> The Service Source weight entry ("With CD-ROM: 19 lb. (21.15 kg)") is also inconsistent, and the technical-specification page gives 45 lb. Treat the power figures as a guide only.

== Service notes ==
Apple's service parts for the 5260/5280 family are the power supply board 661-1133, the analogue/video board assembly 661-1134, the CRT assembly 661-1135, and logic boards 661-1116 (100 MHz) and 661-1265 (120 MHz). None of these is a 5200/5300 part number.<ref name="ss526ev" />

== Apple's chassis, electrical and environmental figures ==
The 5260/5280 logic board has a Cuda reset button. Apple's first step for a machine that will not start is a logic board reset: remove the logic board, unplug the battery, wait 5 to 10 minutes, refit the battery, press the Cuda reset switch with a plastic tool and refit the board. The next step is a new power supply board.<ref name="ss526ap" /><ref name="ss526ts">Apple Computer, ''Power Macintosh/Performa 5260, 5280 Series'' Service Source, 1997, Troubleshooting chapter, Symptom Charts (System, Audio, Video). The Adjustments chapter covers light meter setup, geometry and video only. The high-voltage adjustment in the 5200/5300 manual is marked "not for 5260, 5280" and does not apply to this machine.<ref name="ss526adj">Apple Computer, ''Power Macintosh/Performa 5260, 5280 Series'' Service Source, 1997, Adjustments chapter: Light Meter Setup (pp. 1–6), Geometry (pp. 7–17), Video (pp. 18–29). * '''PRAM battery''' 3.6 V ½AA lithium; Apple: '''replace below 3.0 V'''. Neutralise lithium leakage with bicarbonate of soda, not vinegar<ref name="ss5260" />

'''Apple's own weight figure for this chassis is internally contradictory and should not be quoted.''' It prints "Without CD-ROM: 17 lb. With CD-ROM: 19 lb. (21.15 kg)" — 19 lb is 8.6 kg, not 21.15 kg, and 17/19 lb is what the '''LC 630''' volume gives for a much smaller machine. The 21 kg / ~47 lb figure is the plausible one for a 15-inch all-in-one, and that is what this page carries, but it is flagged rather than presented as Apple's.
The Performa 5200CD guides cover the general procedures for this style of machine. Their part numbers and high-voltage adjustment are for the 5200/5300 and do not apply to the 5280:

* [[Macintosh Performa 5200CD Troubleshooting]]
* [[Macintosh Performa 5200CD Capacitor Replacement Guide]]

'''Apple's built-in display figures''' for the 5260 and 5280: '''14-inch shadow mask, 12.8-inch viewable'''; dot pitch '''0.28 mm'''; vertical frequency '''66.7 Hz'''; active raster '''9.5 × 7.3 in'''; white point '''9,300 K'''; shipping brightness '''25 foot-lamberts'''; aluminised '''P22''' phosphor. Apple gives one video mode: '''640 × 480 at 16-bit colour'''. Note the '''14-inch''' tube — the 5200 and 5300 are 15-inch, and the two families are otherwise very similar.

'''There is no high-voltage adjustment for this family.''' Apple publishes one for the 5200 and 5300 and marks every page of it "not for 5260, 5280". The Adjustments chapter here is '''Geometry''' and '''Video''' only, and Apple publishes '''no rail tolerance and no power-supply adjustment'''. The "+5 V 4.85–5.15 V / +12 V 11.90–12.75 V" pair that circulates on this wiki is Apple's Macintosh Plus and 128K/512K procedure with voltage test cable 077-0135.<ref name="ss5260" />

'''Note also the different supply rating.''' Apple gives this family '''240 W''' and '''4.0 A''' maximum against '''125 W''' and '''2.5 A''' for the 5200 and 5300, in the same-looking chassis — so a 5200-series supply is not a drop-in for a 5260.

The Macintosh Performa 5280 is an all-in-one Macintosh with a 120 MHz PowerPC 603e and a built-in 14-inch display, which Apple sold in Japan. Apple's technical-specification page dates it to November 12, 1996.[1] Apple services it with the Power Macintosh 5260/100 and 5260/120 and the international Performa 5260/120 in one manual, which describes the 5260/120 and 5280 as the same machine: the 5260/100 with a 120 MHz processor, 16 MB of RAM and an AppleCD 1200i drive. The Performa 5260/120 was sold in Canada and Australia and the Power Macintosh 5260/120 in the United States and Canada.[4] EveryMac gives the Japanese order number as M5182J/A.[2]

The 5260 and 5280 look like the Performa 5200 and 5300 but are a separate design. The display is a 14-inch tube where the 5200 and 5300 have a 15-inch one, and the logic board, power supply board, analogue/video board and CRT all carry different Apple part numbers. Apple's 5200/5300 manual is marked "not 5260, 5280" on its cover.[5][6]

Clock battery 4.5 V alkaline pack on a connector; replace below 3.0 V[1][7]

Apple's power figures for this family do not agree with each other. The Service Source Electrical page gives "240 W maximum" on its power line and "220 W maximum for all line and load conditions" two lines below; Apple's technical-specification page gives 125 W and 4 A.[3][1] The Service Source weight entry ("With CD-ROM: 19 lb. (21.15 kg)") is also inconsistent, and the technical-specification page gives 45 lb. Treat the power figures as a guide only.

Service notes

Apple's service parts for the 5260/5280 family are the power supply board 661-1133, the analogue/video board assembly 661-1134, the CRT assembly 661-1135, and logic boards 661-1116 (100 MHz) and 661-1265 (120 MHz). None of these is a 5200/5300 part number.[5]

The next step is a new power supply board.[7][8] A machine that starts from the rear switch but not from the keyboard, or restarts after Shut Down, has a faulty analogue board.[8]

The Adjustments chapter covers light meter setup, geometry and video only. The high-voltage adjustment in the 5200/5300 manual is marked "not for 5260, 5280" and does not apply to this machine.[9][6] The CRT holds a charge after the machine is unplugged; read CRT Discharge Procedure before opening it. The clock battery is alkaline, so leakage is neutralised with dilute white vinegar; see Battery Explosion, Capacitor or Corrosion Damage.

The Performa 5200CD guides cover the general procedures for this style of machine. Their part numbers and high-voltage adjustment are for the 5200/5300 and do not apply to the 5280:
