Power
Power — Apple's figures, and the trap in them
Apple's Electrical specification for the IIvi, IIvx and Performa 600 is in three parts, and
they are easy to conflate:

* A/C line input: 100–120 VAC, 200 W
* A/C line output receptacle: 100–240 VAC, 3 A maximum — this is the switched monitor
  outlet on the back, not the machine's own input
* DC power: 112 W maximum

"Input voltage 100–240 V AC" circulates for this machine. That is the output receptacle's
rating. Apple prints the machine's own line input as 100–120 VAC — a domestic figure — so
a 220–240 V IIvx is a different supply, and its primary-side parts are not interchangeable with a
110 V one. Check which board is in front of you before ordering primary-side capacitors.

"230 W maximum" also circulates for this machine and is not Apple's figure for any part of this
machine: 200 W is the AC input rating and 112 W the DC output. 230 W is the Macintosh IIfx
figure.

Apple publishes no rail tolerance and no power-supply adjustment for this machine.

Battery
3.6 V ½AA lithium; Apple's instruction is to replace it below 2.8 V — measured
on the 10 V DC range. 2.8 V is the IIcx / IIci / IIvi / IIvx / Quadra 700 / SE / SE-30 figure;
3.0 V and 3.2 V belong to other machines and get transplanted between them. Lithium leakage is
neutralised with bicarbonate of soda, not vinegar.

Case Design
The IIvi uses the same high-profile desktop case as the Macintosh IIvx, Performa 600, Macintosh Centris 650, Macintosh Quadra 650, and Power Macintosh 7100. The case includes a front-accessible 5.25" bay for an optional CD-ROM drive.

* Dimensions: 6.0" H × 13.0" W × 16.5" D (15.2 × 33 × 41.9 cm)
* Weight: 25 lbs (11.3 kg)

General Maintenance
Common maintenance concerns include capacitor leakage, PRAM battery failure, and power supply issues.

For cleaning, battery maintenance, and inspection procedures, see the Macintosh IIvi General Maintenance page.

Capacitor Replacement Guide
The Macintosh IIvi logic board contains surface-mount electrolytic capacitors that leak over time.

For capacitor specifications and procedures, see the Macintosh IIvi Capacitor Replacement Guide.

Troubleshooting
Common issues include startup failures, video problems, and SCSI errors.

For diagnostics, see the Macintosh IIvi Troubleshooting page.

The Macintosh IIvi is a desktop Macintosh introduced by Apple on 19 October 1992 and discontinued on 10 February 1993.[1] It is the low-cost version of the Macintosh IIvx: the same case and logic board design, with the 68030 at 16 MHz instead of 32 MHz, no cache and no FPU, though the board has a socket for one.[2] Apple offered it in Europe and the Pacific rather than the United States, where the Performa 600 took its place.[3][1] Apple's service manual covers it with the IIvx and Performa 600.[4]

Specifications

The Service Source prints the A/C line input as 100-120 V AC at 200 W; the developer note gives 85-270 V AC, selected automatically.[4][2] Low End Mac's 230 W for the supply is not Apple's figure, which is 112 W.[5][2]

Hardware

Logic board

Apple's logic board part is 661-0760 for the IIvi (661-0759 IIvx, 661-0761 Performa 600).[4] On the IIvi board Recap-a-Mac photographed (820-0373-A), the cache SRAM positions and the FPU socket are empty.[6] The VASP chip combines video, memory mapping, sound and glue logic, and a 68HC05 microcontroller runs ADB, the clock, parameter RAM and soft power.[2] Software must use the Gestalt Manager to find out whether a IIvi has an FPU.[2]

Because RAM is tested and sized before video starts, the screen stays blank for a while at start-up, longer with more RAM fitted.[2]

Accelerator slot

The 120-pin slot takes accelerator cards. Apple warns that it is not compatible with processor-direct cards for other Macintosh models and that fitting one may damage the card and the computer; cards must stay within 5 W.[2] Low End Mac notes that the IIvi cannot take a cache card, but can take an accelerator.[5]

SCSI and CD-ROM

An active terminator on the logic board terminates the internal bus when no external device is attached. The 3.5-inch hard drive must be terminated; a device in the 5.25-inch bay must not be. Apple's internal CD-ROM uses SCSI ID 3.[2]

Power supply

Apple part 661-0758, shared with the IIvx and Centris 650; Apple Rescue of Denver lists it as Apple 614-0009, 112 W, made by Delta (SMP-120EB) or Astec (AA16870).[4][7] Its ratings from Apple's developer note are on Macintosh IIvi General Maintenance. Apple publishes no rail tolerances and no adjustment.[4]

Battery

A lithium backup battery keeps the clock and PRAM when the machine is unplugged.[2] Apple's test: measure on the 10 V DC range and replace the battery below 2.8 V.[4] Recap-a-Mac's IIvi board photograph shows heavy corrosion around the battery holder.[6]

Capacitors

Logic board 820-0373-A has six 47 µF 16 V surface-mount electrolytics and two 220 µF 16 V axials.[6] See Macintosh IIvi Capacitor Replacement Guide.
