Apple Service Source: case width and depth were transposed across this family (Apple: 16.5 in W x 12.6 in D); sound input is 16-bit MONO - the port accepts stereo but combines it - with 16-bit stereo output; added Apple's electrical figures, 256K standard L2, slot pinouts, and the 4.5 V battery pack with its 3.0 V replace-below threshold; noted the two errors in Apple's own text
Rewrite on Apple's spec sheet and the 6200/6300 Service Source: correct date, RAM, drive and market where they differed; frame buffer is separate DRAM; battery 4.5 V alkaline; repair extension status; remove invented variant details, bold labels and em dashes; credited photo; navbox, categories

The Macintosh Performa 6214CD is a model in Apple's Performa 6200 series of desktop Macintoshes. Apple's specification sheet gives it a 75 MHz PowerPC 603, 8 MB of RAM and a 1 GB IDE hard drive, with an introduction date of 28 August 1995.[1] EveryMac describes it as the 6200CD with a college-student software bundle, a 15-inch monitor and a 14.4k modem, at US$2,300 (order number M4646LL/A).[2]

The Macintosh Performa 6200CD page has the model table for the series, the full specification, Apple's repair extension procedure and a selection of Apple's symptom charts.

Specifications

Performa 6214CD specifications (Apple)
Item Specification
Processor PowerPC 603 at 75 MHz; 16K level 1 and 256K level 2 cache[1][3]
RAM 8 MB as shipped; two 72-pin SIMM slots, 80 ns or faster; 64 MB maximum; no memory soldered to the board[1][3]
Video 1 MB DRAM frame buffer on the logic board, separate from system memory; 640 × 480 at 16 bits per pixel, 800 × 600 and 832 × 624 at 8[3]
Drives 1.4 MB SuperDrive, manual insert; 1 GB IDE hard drive; internal CD-ROM drive[1][3]
Slots 96/114-pin LC processor-direct slot; 112-pin communications slot; 60-pin video-in slot; 10-pin TV tuner port[3]
Electrical 100-240 V AC, 47-63 Hz; 125 W[3]

Battery and repair extension

The battery is a 4.5 V alkaline pack.[1] Apple's test is to measure it on the 10 V DC range with the logic board out and replace it below 3.0 V.[3] Neutralise alkaline leakage with a weak acid such as vinegar; see Battery Explosion, Capacitor or Corrosion Damage.

Apple names the Performa 6214 among the models in its repair extension programme for system freezes and sudden changes in video colour hue. The repair checks the clock chip at U10 (it should be part 343S1191 or 343S1121) and the cache/ROM DIMM, and replaces the logic board or the DIMM (661-1278) as needed; the full procedure is on the Performa 6200CD page.[3]

Maintenance and repair
